It seems that the funniest songs on Take Me To Your Leader are all sung by John James. Or maybe he just has a funny voice. Either way, this song is absolutely hilarious. The premise is just ridiculous; how many young runaways do you know to join the circus? Unless your name is Dick Grayson, you're probably not going to choose place full of freaks and weirdos as your hideout spot. In any case, the message is pretty distinct and couldn't be an clearer: Trust and obey in God because there is no other way. Well, there is... but God's way is the right way. He's given us free will to choose which path we want to follow. Peter Furler handles the chorus on this one, which lyrically opposes the verses (naturally). So in creating the video, there was another interesting dichotomy between the frivolous and serious (like with my "Take Me To Your Leader" video). There's a few songs on the album, this included, that hearken back to 1992 when it just John James and Peter Furler (the other guys came on board around 1994 with Shine). That poppy sound reminds me of "I Can't Get You Out Of My System" and "I'm Not Afraid".... sorta. I like they're they can go back and forth between rock and pop. That's why TMTYL is proooobably my favorite rock album ever.
