He was running a little late. I grabbed my phone and called him."Hello?""Hey, Kev.""Oh, hey babe."I giggled. "Where are you? I've been waiting for a while now.""I'm on my way.""Did your alarm not ring?""It's not that. I just ignored it," Kevin admitted.He laughed. "I'll be there soon. I'm already in the building."I heard his footsteps and suddenly, he whispered, "Crap.""What's wrong?"Over the phone, I heard a gunshot and gasped. There was a distant scream and another shot. The whole thing took less that five seconds but it was enough to scare me. "Kevin? Kevin? Please answer me!" Then, I heard the dial tone. "Kevin!" I looked at my phone and the call had ended. "No." I started freaking out. This wasn't happening. No. It didn't happen. Had the guy I loved... just been shot?I leaned back on the wall and breathed heavily. Kevin couldn't have been shot. He just couldn't have. I was so in love with him. I didn't want to dare imagine him hurt. I was hoping with all my heart that he wasn't the one to get shot. I looked to my right and waited for Kevin to turn the corner. But he never did.Then, the announcement came on. "Attention. We are now in lockdown. All students and staff report to a class immediately. I repeat, this is a lockdown. Enter the nearest classroom at once." The intercom clicked and people frantically ran to the closest room.I wanted to keep waiting for Kevin but a teacher was urging me to enter her class. "This is no time to be slow. You need to hurry," she said."But my--""Now," she said firmly.With one last glance to my right, I grabbed my stuff and walked in. The teacher closed and locked the door behind me. I was obviously the last one. I looked around and every seat was filled. Some students were even on the floor. People were staring at me, which made me quite uncomfortable. But then, the teacher switched off the lights.I sat down on the floor and leaned my head back against the wall. My breathing came quicker and I knew soon, I would be hyperventilating. I felt like crying but with everyone watching, I held it in. I could hear people asking each other why we were in lockdown but no one knew.Suddenly, the teacher spoke up. "Someone just e-mailed me what happened. Apparently, a student walked into the school with a handgun and shot two other students, one male and one female." I cringed at the male part. "We haven't identified them yet but hopefully soon."That only made it worse. I saw a couple of cell phone lights in the darkness so I took out my cell and tried to call Kevin again. I waited until his answering machine came on. I quickly hung up, aggravated. Why wouldn't he pick up?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Did Kevin get shot? Is he dead? Oh snap. Haha.
